Print on both sides
Two- sided printing (English. Duplex printing ) is a process for printing on the front and back of paper. It is supported by many printers and multifunction devices . Due to the English name, the process is also called duplex printing , but this can lead to confusion with two-color printing , which is also called duplex printing . Double-sided printing can reduce paper resources and printing costs. A distinction is made between automatic printing with a duplex unit and printing by manually turning the paper.
For smaller home and office devices, automatic two-sided printing takes place by turning the paper over in the device after printing on the front and then printing on the back. Some larger printing devices that have two printing units print on the front and back at the same time without having to turn the paper in between.
With manual two-sided printing, the printer driver causes all the front pages of the print job to be printed first, then the user removes the paper from the paper output tray, turns it if necessary, depending on the position of the paper feeder, and places it in the paper input tray again so that all the reverse sides can then be printed.
The correct margin setting on the front and back - for example for a wider binding margin (see stapling ) at the left or top end of the paper - is observed when printing on both sides. Similar to double-sided printing, there is also double-sided scan (see: Automatic document changer ).
criticism
Some inkjet printers print with two-sided printing - unlike with one-sided printing - from black and white originals (such as typical text documents ) in addition to black ink also with colored ink. The print image then appears lighter than with one-sided printing, and the ink costs per printed page can rise significantly.
