Ranco is a municipality in the province of Varese in the Lombardy region .

geography

The municipality is located on the southeastern bank of Lake Maggiore and covers an area of ​​6.35  km² . The Uponne, Boschetti and Lago Maggiore fractions belong to Ranco. The neighboring municipalities are Angera , Ispra , Lesa (NO) and Meina (NO).

history

In 1276 the Battle of Guazzera was fought in Ranco between the Visconti and Torriani families . In the 14th century, the areas of Ranco were partly owned by the Convent of the Humiliates of San Lorenzo di Cannobio and partly by a feud of Gian Galeazzo Visconti , Duke of Milan .
