Tamara Andreevna Tyschkewitsch
Tamara Tyshkevich ( Russian : Тамара Андреевна Тышкевич, * 31 March 1931 in Vitebsk , † 27. December 1997 in Saint Petersburg ) was a Russian athlete and Olympic champion who for the Soviet Union took. With a height of 1.70 m, she had a competition weight of 116 kg.
At the first Olympic appearance of the Soviet team at the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952 , the shot put was dominated by the Soviet pushers. Galina Sybina won gold with a new world record of 15.28 m. Klawdija Totschonowa won bronze with 14.50 and Tamara Tyschkewitsch was fourth with 14.42 m. The silver medal went to the German shot putter Marianne Werner with 14.57 m.
At the European Championships in 1954 , Galina Sybina (15.65) again won ahead of Marija Kuznetsova (14.99). Tamara Tyschkewitsch took third place as the third representative of the Soviet Union with 14.78 m.
Before the Olympic Games in 1956 , Galina Sybina's world record was 16.76 m. In Melbourne Tamara Tyschkewitsch won the qualification with 14.41 m ahead of Marianne Werner and Galina Sybina. In the final, which took place on November 30th like the qualification, Galina Sybina improved her own Olympic record from Helsinki three times, the last attempt landed at 16.53 m. Tamara Tyschkewitsch hit 16.59 m in the last attempt and won gold in front of Sybina and Werner (15.61). The 16.59 m was Tyschkewitsch's personal best and was never surpassed by her.
At the European Championships in 1958 , Marianne Werner won with 15.74 in front of Tamara Tyschkewitsch with 15.54. With 15.53 the Ukrainian Tamara Press was right behind her.
At the championships of the Soviet Union Tamara Tyschkewitsch reached a place in the top three every year from 1953 to 1958, 1956 and 1957 she was champion before Galina Sybina. In 1960 she was third again behind Tamara Press and Galina Sybina.
