Micheline Ostermeyer (born December 23, 1922 in Rang-du-Fliers , † October 18, 2001 in Bois-Guillaume ) was a French athlete and pianist .

biography

Ostermeyer's family moved to Tunisia when they were a small child. There she learned to play the piano. She learned quickly and after a few years played so well that she was sent back to France to study at the Conservatory . After the beginning of the Second World War, Ostermeyer returned to Tunisia. She discovered her athletic talent, first played basketball and finally switched to athletics.

After the war she took part in athletics competitions for the first time and proved to be a very versatile athlete. She won French championship titles in all possible disciplines (running, throwing and jumping). She combined her sports career with a musical career and also won several awards for playing the piano.

At the European Championships in Oslo in 1946 , she was second in the shot put . Ostermeyer celebrated her greatest successes at the 1948 Olympic Games in London . She won a gold medal in the shot put and a discus throw as well as a bronze medal in the high jump . Her achievements were only surpassed by Fanny Blankers-Koen , who won four gold medals at the same event.

At the European Championships in Brussels in 1950 , she won a bronze medal in the 80 meter hurdles and in the shot put and then ended her sports career. She concentrated on her music career and gave piano concerts into old age.
