Ria Stalman (born December 11, 1951 in Delft ) is a Dutch sports journalist and former athlete . Her greatest success was winning the gold medal at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles in the discus throw .

Ria Stalman was already the Dutch champion in discus throwing in 1973. She won this title a total of ten times, and she was also five times national champion in the shot put . She studied at Arizona State University and also took part in the US championships. She won this in 1982 and 1984 in the discus throw, and in 1984 also in the shot put. Her greatest achievement was winning the Olympic gold medal at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, which were boycotted by the Eastern Bloc countries. In the same year she was Sportswoman of the Year in the Netherlands and ended her career. 31 years after her Olympic victory in 2016, Stalman admitted that she had been using anabolic steroids on a regular basis for the last two and a half years before Los Angeles . The Dutch Athletics Association then deleted their record length of 71.22 m, which they had set up on July 15, 1984 shortly before the games, from the leaderboard.

Nowadays she runs a boat rental company in Amsterdam and comments for Eurosport athletics events.
