Maritza Martén

Maritza Martén García (born August 17, 1963 in Havana ) is a former Cuban discus thrower . She won the gold medal in her discipline at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona .

Maritza Martén won her first title in 1982 at the Pan America Junior Championships. Later, among the seniors, she was able to achieve 2nd place at the Pan American Games in 1983 and 1st place 4 years later. However, her greatest achievement was winning the gold medal at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona . This was her only participation in the Olympics, as Cuba boycotted the Games in both 1984 and 1988. In 1995 Martén was able to win the Pan American Games in her discipline again in her last year of competition.

In 1997 she retired from active sport and then worked as a throwing coach for the Cuban national athletics team.
