Mocenigo

The Mocenigo are a Venetian patrician family . She provided seven doges to the Republic of Venice . The family is therefore counted among those 16 families that are referred to as the "ducal houses" (case nuove ducali) (see: patriciate of Venice ), although of course they did not have this rank hereditary, but only in the respective person of the elective duke.

The main branches are the Mocenigo of San Samuele and the Mocenigo of San Staè. The latter died out in the middle of the 20th century.

They provided the following doges :

  2. Pietro Mocenigo (1474-1476)
  3. Giovanni Mocenigo (1478–1485)
  4. Alvise Mocenigo I (1570–1577)
  5. Alvise Mocenigo II (1700–1709)
  6. Alvise Mocenigo III. (1722-1732)
  7. Alvise Mocenigo IV (1763–1778)
