Giovanni Zuane Mocenigo (born August 2, 1531 in Venice , † June 22, 1598 in ibid.) Was a Venetian Provveditore Generale.

He was a member of the Venetian patrician family Mocenigo , from which seven doges emerged . In the Venetian Navy he took part in numerous naval battles and distinguished himself in the naval battle of Lepanto in 1571 .

In 1590, when Giordano Bruno was in Frankfurt am Main for the Frankfurt Book Fair , Zuane Mocenigo invited him to Venice and Bruno refused. Bruno was initially an associate professor at the University of Padua , but the chair was soon given to Galileo Galilei . Bruno then accepted an invitation to Venice. His host, Zuane Mocenigo, Provveditore Generale di Marano Vicentino , wanted to be initiated into mnemonics and alchemy . Disputes arose out of disappointment that these expectations were not met. While Bruno was still considering leaving Venice, he was denounced by Mocenigo and arrested by the Inquisition on May 22, 1592 .

Zuane Mocenigo was Provveditore Generale di Dalmatia before he was elected as Provveditore of Palmanova in 1494 to succeed Marcantonio Barbaro .
