The Schwarzensteinhütte ( Italian Rifugio Vittorio Veneto al Sasso Nero ) is a refuge in the South Tyrolean part of the Zillertal Alps . In this mountain group it is the highest hut with a height of 3026  m slm .

history

The Leipzig section of the German and Austrian Alpine Club decided on May 25, 1893 to build the first Schwarzenstein hut at an altitude of 2922  m ( 47 ° 0 ′ 38.2 ″  N , 11 ° 53 ′ 19 ″  E ). It was opened two years later on August 8, 1895. After the First World War , the Schwarzensteinhütte was expropriated by the Italian state and used for military purposes for a while. It was then handed over to the CAI, which initially had it administered by its metallurgical commission (CCRAA) and, from 1926, managed by the Vittorio Veneto section . Apart from minor modernizations, no major changes were made to the hut until it was demolished. The hut, which was damaged in the Second World War, has been in operation again since 1973, after having been under military control for several years from 1964.

Old Schwarzenstein hut

Together with 24 other shelters expropriated by the state, the Schwarzensteinhütte became the property of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano - South Tyrol in 1999; At the end of 2010, the license for their management by the CAI expired. In 2011 the state government decided to demolish and rebuild the hut due to the poor structural condition. Since 2015, the state of South Tyrol has been supported in the management of the hut (assignment to tenants, supervision of management, renovation measures) by a joint commission, in which the AVS and CAI are represented in addition to the public sector .

From 2016 to 2017 the new Schwarzensteinhütte was built in an elevated position above the old one at an altitude of 3,026  m . The old hut was demolished in 2017 and the new one opened in July 2018. The cost of the construction work amounted to around 2.97 million euros. Power is supplied by a photovoltaic system on the roof and a diesel generator ; Melt water is sterilized for drinking water supply .
