Vergiate is a municipality ( comune ) in the province of Varese in Lombardy .

geography

The municipality is located about 10 kilometers southwest of Varese in the Ticino Valley in the Parco Lombardo Valle del Ticino and covers an area of ​​21.61  km² . Vergiate includes the Cimbro, Corgeno, Cuirone and Sesona factions. The neighboring municipalities are Arsago Seprio , Casale Litta , Comabbio , Golasecca , Mercallo , Mornago , Sesto Calende , Somma Lombardo and Varano Borghi .

Industry

The production of aircraft that go back to the beginnings of aviation and contain machines of considerable importance, including transatlantic seaplanes of the 1930s (SIAI was the acronym for Società Idrovolanti Alta Italia with the parent plant in neighboring Sesto Calende ), was stopped as part of a reorganization of the Finmeccanica Group sold to Aermacchi and completely replaced by AgustaWestland helicopters .
