history

In Roman times , the area was crossed by the Roman road Via Varesina , which connected Mediolanum ( Milan ) with Luganum ( Lugano ).

During the Second World War , under the German occupation and the Republic of Salò , Fernando Torreggiani, an anti-fascist Catholic, made a decisive contribution to the rescue of the six members of the Melli Rossi Jewish family from Ferrara by evading deportation and allowing them to flee the nearby Switzerland made possible.
