The municipality is located about 15 kilometers northwest of Varese on the Boesio and covers an area of 11.49 km² . The fractions Vararo , Fracce , Pianazza , Cascine , Molinazzo , Casere , Pianella , San Biagio , Vignola , Le Ville , Alpe Pirla , Chiosi , Cascate di San Giulio , Ghetto , Cereda , La Fontanaccia , Sasso del Ferro , Mulini , belong to Cittiglio , Cormeta , Passo del Cuvignone , Monte La Tegia , Pizzoni di Laveno and Passo Barbè . Cittiglio is part of the Comunità Montana Valli del Verbano . Four kilometers northwest of Cittiglio is the shore of Lake Maggiore .
