Vedano Olona is a municipality ( comune ) in the province of Varese in Lombardy .
geography
The municipality is located about 6 kilometers southeast of Varese on the Parco Pineta di Appiano Gentile and covers an area of 7 km² . Vedano Olona includes the Vela, Baraggia, Fondo Campagna, Fontanelle, Careno, Lazzaretto-Cascina Pella and Vigna-Tronno fractions. The neighboring municipalities are Binago (CO), Castiglione Olona , Lozza , Malnate , Varese and Venegono Superiore . The Olona flows through the municipality .
history
The Via Varesina in Roman times ran over Vedanum (Roman name for Vedano Olona), which connected Mediolanum with Luganum ( Lugano ) and over baretium ( Varese ), hence the name of the street. During the Middle Ages, the humiliates played a special role in ruling the area around Vedano. The community is evidenced by several documents. In 1121 the inhabitants of Vedano, who came to the aid of the Binaghesi attacked by the Comaschi, were beaten and forced to flee.
