Lavena Ponte Tresa is an Italian commune ( comune ) in the province of Varese in the Lombardy region .

geography

Ponte Tresa is located where the Tresa flows out of Lake Lugano . The river also forms the state border between Switzerland and Italy . Ponte Tresa is therefore divided into two parts and covers an area of ​​4  km² . Lavena Ponte Tresa includes the fractions (localities) Lavena , Le Cantine , Piacco and Ponte Tresa . The neighboring communities are Brusimpiano , Cadegliano-Viconago , Caslano (CH-TI), Croglio (CH-TI), Marzio and Ponte Tresa (CH-TI).

history

The municipality consists of two different centers: Lavena, which is the historical origin of the municipality, and Ponte Tresa. The first has two residential areas as a historical center. The village of Castello, which can be dated to the 12th century, and the village of Villa, which was built in the first half of the 18th century. Ponte Tresa has a much more recent origin, it was built in 1846 after the construction of the bridge over the Tresa River .
