history
With the invasion of the Gallic tribes in the north of the Italian peninsula, the history of Induno Olona begins. A Roman settlement in the 1st century BC can be proven for the small district of Pezza.
In the 9th century, the Lombards struck the village of Castelseprio . The Torre Pezza ( now in ruins) and the Castle of Frascarolo were probably built under the Lombard rule . For the following centuries it passed to the Parish Church of Arcisate and the Church of Milan. In 1160, during the invasion of Federico Barbarossa , the Archbishop of Milan , Oberto da Pirovano, used Frascarolo Castle as a fortress to protect Varese from an attack from Como .
Induno Olona was subject to Spanish rule. Under Austrian rule it was subject to the province of Varese. After the end of the Napoleonic government, it was assigned to the Arcisate district in the province of Como . In 1827 the first municipal council was elected. In the 19th century, Induno Olona was transformed from an agricultural place into an industrial town thanks to the presence of the Olona River, which supplied six factories; In 1903 the Valganna Railway started operating, connecting Induno with Varese and Luino . In 1927 the municipality of Induno Olona was abolished and Varese was attached. But after a referendum in 1949, it regained its autonomy on October 25, 1950.
