The Mae Yom National Park ( Thai : อุทยานแห่งชาติ แม่ ยม ) is a national park in Thailand . It is located in the northwest region of the country.
history
Mae Yom National Park named the 51st National Park in Thailand on March 1, 1986. The park got its name from the " Mae Nam Yom " (Yom River) , but not until 1984, originally the park was called Mae Pung ( แม่ ปุ ง ). The then Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Narong Wongwan ( นาย ณรงค์ วงศ์ วรรณ ), initiated the designation of the park as a national park in 1982.
geography
The national park covers an area of 284,218.75 Rai (454.75 km²), it is located in the north of the Phrae province , in the district ( Amphoe ) Song and in the district ( Amphoe ) Ngao of the Lampang Province .
The park consists of a long rocky mountain range with mountains such as Doi Luang, Doi Yaao and Doi Khun Huai. The bedrock consists of granite, slate and limestone.
climate
As in almost all other parts of the country, there are three seasons here: the rainy, winter and summer seasons. Depending on the altitude, different temperatures can settle here. The rainy season runs from June to September.
Flora and fauna
The area of Mae Yom National Park is covered with various forests and grasslands.

The steep slopes to the valley are covered with evergreen dry forests, the following plants can be found here:
- Dipterocarpus alatus , Krabak tree ( Anisoptera costata ) (Thai: กระบาก), Australian red cedar ( Toona ciliata )

Another forest that can be found in Mae Yom is the mixed foliage forest . Here you mainly find:
- Afzelia xylocarpa , Xylia xylocarpa , Burma Padouk ( Pterocarpus macrocarpus ), Lagerstroemia calyculata and teak tree ( Tectonia grandis )
Animal species
According to an inventory / wildlife census by the "Department for National Parks, Animal and Plant Species Protection" (DNP), the Mae Yom National Park has 39 species of mammals, 135 species of birds, 28 reptile species and 14 amphibian species. A small excerpt from this:

- Ruffed bear also Asiatic black bear or moon bear ( Ursus thibetanus )

- Long-tailed tassels ( Atherurus macrourus )
- Little otter ( Aonyx cinerea )
- Spring parrot oaks ( Loriculus vernalis )
- Hedge Cuckoo ( Centropus sinensis )
- Gray-headed woodpecker ( Dendrocopos canicapillus )
- Dark Tiger Python ( Python bivittatus )

- Kaeng Suea Ten rapids, in Maenam Yom, which stretch over 6 kilometers.
