action

Julian, a young man, escapes from a mental hospital in Berlin to walk to southern Germany because he wants to heal the sick father of his deceased best friend by walking. Shortly after his outbreak, he meets the doctor Julianne, who has doubts about her job due to the death of a young patient. For reasons that have not been clarified, Julian knows her name. A short time later, the two meet again, Julianne invites Julian to her home so that he can rest there. When he wants to move on, she gives him her friend Sebastian's hiking boots. But because it is not right in their relationship, after they meet again, she unceremoniously joins the charismatic hiker, even if he is not enthusiastic about the idea at first. Together they continue their wanderings. On the way they meet their wife and mother Ruth, who is treated badly by her husband Matthias on vacation and who is desperate about her situation. Julianne and Julian take them on in their small group.

Julian is followed by the run-down policeman Jan, who has been asked to bring him back to the clinic. What Julian is hiding is that he is responsible for the death of his best friend: Julian firmly believes that his thoughts can jump over moving cars and wanted to try it out with his best friend who drove the car. But he got scared at the last moment, dodged Julian and had a fatal accident.

After narrowly missing each other a few times, the group finally meets Jan, and all four continue on their way together. Jan invites them all to a hotel and locks Julian in his hotel room. But Julian escapes with the help of Julianne, who is disappointed by his lies. Ruth returns to her family strengthened in her self-confidence. Jan and Julianne drive to the parents of Julian's dead friend, where Julian also arrives. He convinces Jan to try the experiment again. Julianne comes in just as Julian is jumping over Jan's speeding car.

Julianne returns to Sebastian, and Jan finally releases Julian and drives back to Berlin alone.
