The Phu Kradueng National Park , also written Phu Kradung ( Thai อุทยานแห่งชาติ ภูกระดึง ), is located in the district ( Amphoe ) Phu Kradueng of the Loei Province in northeast Thailand . It is one of the most famous national parks in Thailand , its highest point is 1316 m.

history

The park was declared a protected forest in 1943 and converted into a national park on November 23, 1962. This makes it the second oldest national park in Thailand after Khao Yai National Park. The park attracts several thousand visitors every year.

geography

The park is located 520 km northeast of Bangkok and about 70 km from the provincial capital Loei in the area of the Phang Loei ridge. The best way to get there is via the Khon Kaen Loei Highway.

The park itself consists of a plateau with meadows, cliffs, forests and waterfalls as well as evergreen monsoon forests at lower altitudes. Numerous animal species and a few more tigers live in the park.

The mean temperature is around 20 ° C. From December to January, however, it can cool down to 2 ° C overnight. In the rainy season and during the colder season, the mountain is usually covered in fog.

The six km long main path to the high plateau takes about three hours; There are several rest stops across the route. Once at the top, it is another approx. Three km to the headquarters of the national park management.

The hottest season is from March to June, at this time it is best to start at sunrise so as not to get into the midday heat during the hike.

For safety reasons, the park is closed to visitors during the rainy season from July to October.
