The Op Luang National Park ( Thai อุทยานแห่งชาติ อ อบ หลวง ) is a National Park in the province of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand .

history

Between 1966 and 1991, today's national park was a forest reserve .

The Op Luang National Park was opened in 1991 as the 68th national park in Thailand.

The National Park Op Luang is in the Amphoe Chom Thong , Mae Chaem and hot along the river Mae Chaem and extends over 553 square kilometers .

The area of ​​the Op Luang National Park is characterized by a narrow, deep valley formed by the Mae Chaem River. The rocks are exposed to severe erosion and therefore form bizarre formations. The highest mountain in the country, Doi Inthanon, borders the north-south oriented mountain range .

Attractions

The interesting places in the Op Luang National Park include numerous waterfalls, caves, hot springs and historical sites:

  • the Op Luang gorge - a rock formation about 300 meters long and only 2 meters wide at the narrowest point, the rocks protrude more than 30 meters high
  • Doi Pha Chang - an elevation that resembles a reclining elephant, from here the Mae Bua Kham waterfall can be clearly seen; In the Pha Chang Cave there are rock carvings of elephants in different colors
  • Mae Bua Kham waterfall - about 2 kilometers south of Op Luang
  • Mae Chon Waterfall - around 80 meters wide on the Mae Chon River, with granite rocks
  • Mae Tia waterfall - the water falls more than 75 meters deep all year round
  • Tupu Cave - with a narrow entrance, it holds around 30 people in total, stalagmites and stalactites are formed, a circular hole in the ceiling gives off some light
  • Thep Phanom - hot spring with mineral-rich water

climate

The climate of the Op Luang National Park is tropical - monsoonal and has three distinct seasons : the dry season between November and March, the warm season between March and May and the rainy season between May and October.
