The Ao Phang-nga National Park ( Thai : อุทยานแห่งชาติ อ่าว พังงา - Phang-nga Bay ) is a national park in the southern region of Thailand .
The 401 km² park was opened on April 29, 1981.
geography
The national park is located on the west coast of the Malay Peninsula in the counties of Mueang Phang-nga and Takua Thung in the province of Phang-nga .
About 80% of the park consists of water from the Andaman Sea , about 42 large and small islands belong to the park, such as the famous islands of Khao Phing-Kan (Thai: เขา พิง กัน , literally leaning rock ) and Khao Ta-Pu (Thai: เขา ตะปู - literally needle rock , also Ko Ta-Pu, เกาะ ตะปู - needle island ), which have become world famous as the " James Bond island ".
climate
The mean temperature is 23 ° C, with March and April being the hottest months. From November to February there is a pleasant climate for tourists. Most of the rain falls from May to October, with an annual average of 2380 mm.
Flora and fauna
The coastal areas are mostly covered with mangrove forests, mostly only bushes can stand on the craggy limestone pinnacles, but there are also species of screw trees and elegant cycads in places.
16 bird species have been spotted in the national park, including a kingfisher, the brown-winged lair and the collared lair , the Malay spint , the red swallow , the dajal thrush and a species known as the “gray wagtail”.
Most of the mammals were species of fruit bat and some species of monkeys.
In the mangrove swamps live the fiddler crab , the mudskipper , as well as a multitude of snakes and small lizards.
