The Nam Tok Yong National Park ( Thai : อุทยานแห่งชาติ น้ำตก โยง , RTGS : Uthayan Haeng Chat Nam Tok Yong, Yong Waterfall National Park ) is a national park in the southern region of Thailand .

The park was officially opened on July 22, 1992 in the Royal Gazette as the 64th national park in Thailand.

geography

The national park is located in the districts ( Amphoe ) Thung Song , Ron Phibun and Na Bon in the province of Nakhon Si Thammarat . It has an area of ​​128,125 Rai , which corresponds to about 205 km².

There are numerous mountains in the park averaging 600 meters high. The mountains belong to the Nakhon-Si-Thammarat mountain range , which stretches from north to south across the Malay Peninsula . The highest mountain in the park is the 1350 meter high Yod Khao Men ( ยอด เขา เหม น ).

The Thai Geological Department has found numerous deposits of iron and tungsten in the park .

climate

As the park is located on the Malay Peninsula, it is exposed to both summer and winter monsoon winds from both sides, from the Andaman Sea to the west and the South China Sea to the east. The weather is cold from May to December, and summer is from January to April. The average temperature is 26 ° C.

Attractions

The mountains in the park offer many viewpoints with spectacular views over the surroundings. Are worth mentioning

  • Plio Waterfall ( น้ำตก ปลิว ) - eight-tiered waterfall that is considered the most beautiful in the park. The water falls in each of the steps from a height of 15 to 18 meters and is atomized by the wind (pliu - ปลิว means: to be blown by the wind ).
