The Phu Phan National Park ( Thai : อุทยานแห่งชาติ ภู พาน ) is a national park in Thailand . It is located in the northeast region of the country, the so-called Isan , in the provinces of Sakon Nakhon and Kalasin . So far, around 35,000 visitors have officially visited the park (as of August 2008).

The park administration is located in Tambon Huai Yang in the district ( Amphoe ) Mueang Sakon Nakhon in the province of Sakhon Nakhon.

geography

Phu Phan National Park is one of four national parks located in the Phu Phan Mountains . These were once the retreat for communist rebels. During the Second World War, the Seri Thai movement hid its weapons in the Seri Thai cave in these mountains, which they needed to resist the Japanese invasion.

At Kham Hom is the Royal Phu Phan Palace , which serves as the base for the work of the royal family with the poor people of the northeast.

climate

The hot season with temperatures of up to 40 ° C lasts from the end of January to May. The rainy season begins in June and lasts until October with a total of 1500 mm of annual precipitation . The cool season lasts from November to January, with temperatures dropping to 17 ° C in the evening.

fauna

  • 24 species of birds have been sighted here.
  • Muntjac and sambar deer populate the national park. A few wild specimens of the Asian elephant are said to still live here.

Attractions

  • Kam Hom Waterfall (Thai: น้ำตก คำ หอม ) is a popular weekend getaway destination for locals. The water falls over three levels from October to November from a height of 600 meters.
  • The Pricha Sukh San waterfall (Thai: น้ำตก ปรีชา สุขสันต์ ) pours at an angle of about 30-40 ° over a twelve meter high stone field.
  • A natural bridge made of rock (Thai: สะพาน หิน ธรรมชาติ ) connects two ledges with a width of about 1.5 meters over eight meters.
  • Phra That Phu Phek (Thai: พระ ธาตุ ภู เพ็ก ) - the ruins of a Khmer temple, which is said to have been built for a relic of the Buddha, is located on Phu Phan Mountain, a staircase with 500 steps leads up.
  • The Seri-Thai Cave (Thai: ถ้ำ เสรีไทย ) is a bit hidden. It served as a hiding place for the "Thai Seri" during World War II.
