The Nam Nao National Park ( Thai : อุทยานแห่งชาติ น้ำ หนาว ) is a National Park in the province of Phetchabun in northern Thailand .

history

Mae Ping National Park was declared the 5th National Park in Thailand on May 4, 1972.

geography

The park has an area of ​​966 km² (603,750 Rai) and is located at an intersection with the provinces of Chaiyaphum , Phetchabun and Loei . With an annual average temperature of 25 ° C per day, the climate is extremely pleasant.

The highest mountain in the park at 1271 meters is Phu Phajit.

The following rivers have their source in the park:

Mae Nam Phong and Mae Nam Loei are tributaries of the Mekong , the Pa Sak flows into the Mae Nam Chao Phraya at Ayutthaya .

Flora and fauna

The flora in the hilly to mountainous forest is diverse. One of the most famous places is the Phu Kum Khao pine forest, it consists of Khasi pines (Pinus kesiya) , another well-known pine forest is the Suan Son Dong Peak, it consists of both (Pinus merkusii) or Sumatra pines and Khasi pines, one can also find it Dipterocarpus forests, monsoon forest . When the wind blows through the mountain forest, you can hear the crack of a bamboo. There are also plenty of orchids in the park, as well as plant species with medicinal substances.

Leopard , collar bear and sun bear live in the park . Wild specimens of the Asian elephant are also occasionally seen. It is said that the last Sumatran rhinoceros was seen in 1971 .

The place is known for its diverse avifauna . At least over 200 species of birds and 340 species of butterflies have been spotted here. For example, woodpeckers (including gray crest woodpecker ( Dendrocopos canicapillus )) Rotschenkelzwergfalke ( Microhierax caerulescens ) and silver pheasant are just a few of the available types .
