Avifauna

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The totality of all bird species occurring in a region is referred to as avifauna . The name is derived from the Latin words avis "bird" and fauna "animal world". The bird world in a landscape is also known as " Ornis " ( Greek ὄρνις ornis "bird").

In addition to the avifauna, other animal groups in a region can also be recorded; these are named accordingly as entomofauna ( insects ), ichtyofauna ( fish ) or herpetofauna ( reptiles / amphibians ).
