The Phu Pha Lek National Park ( Thai อุทยานแห่งชาติ ภูผา เหล็ก ) is a national park in the Sakon Nakhon Province in the northeast region ( Isan ) of Thailand .

location

The Phu Pha Lek National Park extends to about 419 km² over parts of the Phu Phan mountain range , the highest point is Phu Ang Sor at an altitude of 695 meters. The park extends between 17 ° 15 'and 16 ° 49' east latitude and 103 ° 15 'and 103 ° 50' north longitude to about 200 to 600 meters above sea level.

Several dams supply the population with water, such as the Nam-Un Dam (Thai: เขื่อน น้ำ อู น ) and the Lampao Dam (Thai: เขื่อน ลำ ปาว ).

climate

The climate is tropical and monsoonal . The summers are very hot from March to May and at 40 ° C. Forest fires often break out during this time . The rainy season lasts from June to October, the annual precipitation is about 1000 to 1300 mm. The cold season is between November and February at around 15 to 20 ° C.

fauna and Flora

The flora consists mostly of Dipterocarpus forest in which tree species of the wing fruit family dominate. In the valleys there is mixed forest with, for example, rosewood , ironwood , Burmese ebony . There are individual species of the taxa bamboo and ginger family .

In the fauna there are some species from the taxa deer , monkeys (such as langurs ), squirrels , snakes and birds. Some animal species are threatened as the local population hunts.

  • Dinosaur Cemetery ( สุสาน ไดโนเสาร์ ) - many dinosaurs and fossilized plants have been found in the center of the Phu Pha Lek Mountains and on the edge of the forests
  • Pha Suriyan ( ผา สุ ริ ยันต์ ) - a cliff with a beautiful view over the national park
  • Pha Dong Kor ( ผาด ง ก่อ ) - another cliff at the top of Phu Pha Lek, with a rock that threatens to fall into the depths
  • Pha Nam Joke ( ผา น้ำ โจ้ ก ) - this elevation provides an overview of the Huay Huad Basin and the provinces of Udon Thani and Khon Kaen
