The Kui Buri National Park ( Thai อุทยานแห่งชาติ กุยบุรี ) is a national park in Thailand . It is located in the Tenasserim Mountains in the Prachuap Khiri Khan Province . In the north it borders on the Kaeng Krachan National Park .

Wildlife

The national park is home to around 250 wild Asian elephants and, with over 100 specimens, the largest Gaur population in Thailand, Gaure . These graze together with Banteng cattle on the open savannah grasslands of the park.

In 2013, 24 Gaur were found dead within a few days, after which the national park was closed for 8 months. A bacterial infection was determined to be the cause of death. The population has now recovered.

Other endangered large animals that find a refuge in the park are Indochina tigers , clouded leopards , collar bears , golden jackals , sun bears and black-backed tapirs . In the 1990s there were frequent conflicts between farmers and wildlife. On the orders of King Bhumibol Adulyadej , dams were built outside the park, which enabled farmers to irrigate fields there. As a result, many farmers moved their fields from the park area to the edge areas, which gave the wild animals more space. Wildlife populations are now increasing. The poaching could be limited by the use of rangers.
