Phu Phek
Prasat Phu Phek ( Thai : ปราสาท ภู เพ็ก ) or Phra That Phu Phek is a Buddhist mountain temple ruin of the historical Khmer empire in today's Thailand .
The temple is located in Tambon Na Hua Bo, 37 kilometers west of Sakon Nakhon ( Thai : สกลนคร ) in the Phu Phan mountain range . Today it is a ruin of a laterite prang built around 1050 .
In the temple, astronomical relationships with the position of the sun and the orientation of the building can be observed (for example sundial ).
Phu Phek was built as a counterpart to the Phra That Narai Cheng Weng temple .
About halfway up the mountain is the modern Buddhist monastery Wat Phrathat Phu Phek (Thai: วัด พระ ธาตุ ภู เพ็ก ). The temple is only known regionally and is located on a single rock, to which 491 steep steps lead. These start at the end of the street at the newly built Buddhist monastery.
