Venegono Inferiore is a municipality in the province of Varese in the Lombardy region .

geography

The municipality is located southeast of the city of Varese and covers an area of ​​5  km² . The Varese-Venegono airport is partly located in the municipality.

The neighboring communities are Binago ( CO ), Castelnuovo Bozzente (CO), Castiglione Olona , Gornate-Olona , Lonate Ceppino , Tradate and Venegono Superiore .

history

From the place that bore the Roman name Venegonum came via Varesina , which connected Mediolanum ( Milan ), past Baretium ( Varese ), with Luganum ( Lugano ). The first historical evidence for the existence of medieval Venegono dates back to 737 , when Manecunda founded the monastery of neighboring Cairate .
