Clivio is an Italian commune ( comune ) in the province of Varese in the Lombardy region . It belongs to the Comunità Montana del Piambello .

geography

The municipality is located about 9.5 kilometers northeast of Varese directly on the border with the Swiss canton of Ticino and covers an area of ​​2.9  km² . The Torrente Clivio passes the village to the north and west and largely forms the border with neighboring Italian communities. A little south of the village center, the Laveggio rises in three small ponds , which flows into Lake Lugano at Riva San Vitale in Ticino . The neighboring communities are Cantello , Mendrisio (CH-TI), Saltrio , Stabio (CH-TI) and Viggiù .

  • Since 2009, chocolate tastings have been held on the Cioccolandando Clivio path every first Sunday in February.
