Until April 13, 2013, Ligornetto was a municipality in the Stabio district , in the Mendrisio district of the canton of Ticino in Switzerland.

The village is 362 m above sea level. M. and is ten kilometers from Chiasso and is on the Italian border. It has a beautiful scenic location at the foot of the heights of Besazio and Saltrio , with vines and chestnut groves, where various marble quarries are quarried.

history

The village was first mentioned in 789 under the then name Logurno . The village was already inhabited before the beginning of the Roman era, on July 18, 1946, various Roman graves were found there.

Community merger

Since April 14, 2013 Ligornetto has belonged to the municipality and county of Mendrisio .
