Until April 13, 2013, Besazio was a municipality in the Riva San Vitale district , in the Mendrisio district of the canton of Ticino in Switzerland.

geography

The village is ten kilometers from Chiasso and is close to the Italian border. Besazio's red marble, called brocatello , is well known.

history

The village was first mentioned in 1335 under the then name Besatio . The place seems to have a continuous history of settlement since Roman times . Under Filippo Maria Visconti , the village had to send four armed men into the princely armies.

Attractions

  • The parish church of Madonna Immacolata
  • A monument from the old days is the church of Sant'Antonino from the eighth century, as well as the foundations of mansions and Roman tombs as well as the baptismal font, which today stands as a fountain on the large church square
