Franco Clivio

Franco Clivio (* 1942 in Zurich ) is a Swiss designer and university professor . Clivio became known with award-winning designs a. a. for Gardena (garden tools) and Lamy (stationery). Clivio coined the term No Name Design .

Life

Franko Clivio's father immigrated as a worker from Milan to Bern in Switzerland in 1951 . Talented in drawing, Clivio became a structural draftsman after school and studied from 1963 to 1968 at the HfG Ulm . Here he was close to Hans Gugelot and made friends with Tomás Maldonado , Gui Bonsiepe and Walter Zeischegg . With Dieter Raffler , Clivio developed the award-winning Original Gardena system for gardening tools during their studies , in which the functional principles of compressed air couplings were implemented in plastic. After various teaching positions in Germany, the USA, Finland and Italy, he taught from 1980 to 2002 as a lecturer at the University of Art and Design in Zurich and since 2003 at the Università IUAV di Venezia.

Franko Clivio is married and lives and works in Erlenbach, Zurich .
