Lamy is a manufacturer of writing implements with headquarters in Heidelberg . According to its own information, the family business has an annual production of ten million writing instruments and an annual turnover of around 130 million euros (2017) in Germany.

history

In 1930 the company was founded under the name "Orthos Fountain Pen Factory CJ Lamy" by C. Josef Lamy in Heidelberg. In 1948 the name was changed to C. Josef Lamy GmbH. The Lamy writing instrument brand made its breakthrough in the Federal Republic of Germany in 1952 with the Lamy 27 fountain pen . In 1957 the company moved to the Wieblingen district of Heidelberg .

Manfred Lamy (* 1936) joined C. Josef Lamy GmbH in 1962 as Marketing Manager. In 1964 the Lamy exact ballpoint pen was introduced , with a large refill. In 1973 Manfred Lamy became the sole managing director and developed the company into a design brand known worldwide.

In 1989 the production of own inks started. In 1994 sales of over DM 100 million (€ 51.13 million) were achieved for the first time.

After Manfred Lamy retired from the management in November 2006, Bernhard M. Rösner (as sole managing director) took over management of the company. In 2018, Bernhard Rösner left the company due to differences of opinion with the shareholders, from now on a team of three long-term employees will run the company. Manfred Lamy is a member of the newly founded Lamy Advisory Board and was honored with the Design Prize of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2008 for his special services to design and a holistic, future-oriented corporate and product culture .

  • Gerd A. Müller (* 1932 † 1991) (models: Lamy 2000, Lamy cp1, Lamy st, Lamy twin pen and Lamy unic ) worked as a designer at Braun from 1955 to 1965 after studying at the Werkkunstschule Wiesbaden . He worked in the Bauhaus tradition and designed the Lamy 2000 in 1966 . An anniversary edition of the Lamy 2000 with grenadilla wood was produced in 1996 and another anniversary edition of the Lamy 2000 in 2006 made of polished high-tech ceramic. In 1974 Gerd A. Müller was also responsible for the development of the Lamy cp1 . In 1984 the Lamy unic and the Lamy twin pen are introduced . In 1988 the Lamy unic Ti ballpoint pen . Titanium coated received the "European Design Prize 1988" of the Commission of the European Communities (EC). The Lamy cp1 was awarded the IF Design Award in 1988 by the Industrie Forum Design Hannover , and also twice with the red dot design award .
