Naoto Fukasawa ( Japanese 深 澤 直 人 , Fukasawa Naoto ; * 1956 in Yamanashi Prefecture ) is an internationally known Japanese industrial designer .

Life

Fukasawa studied at Tama Art University (Tokyo) until he graduated in 1980 . He then worked as a designer for Seiko Epson for a few years and went to the USA in 1989. After building up and running IDEO's design studio in Tokyo from 1996 to 2002 , he founded his own company in 2003, “Naoto Fukasawa Design”.

Exemplary works for Fukasawa's understanding of design are the works for Muji , a Japanese lifestyle department store chain, for which he designed a CD player, the “Infobar” and “neon” cell phones - all included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York - as well as the ± 0 mark for household appliances and accessories. Fukasawa also chairs Muji as creative director and thus has a significant influence on his minimalist, clear design philosophy.

Since he founded his own studio, work for companies such as Apple , Artemide , B&B Italia, Boffi, Epson, Danese, Magis and NEC have caused a stir.

Naoto Fukasawa has received over 50 international awards, including a. the US IDEA Award in Gold, the German iF Award in Gold, the English D&AD Award in Gold and the German red dot award .

Fukasawa is a professor at the Musashino Art School and a visiting professor at the Tama Art University , where he studied himself. He is the author of several books, including a. Design no Rinkaku ( デ ザ イ ン の 輪 郭 , Eng. An Outline of Design , TOTO Shuppan) and co-author of Design no Seitaigaku - Atarashii Design no Kyōkasho ( デ ザ イ ン の 生態学 - 新 し い デ „イ ン の. 教科書 , Eng Design textbook ", Tōkyō Shoseki).
