Artemide is a world-famous Italian lighting manufacturer . Two of his best-known products are the table lamps Tizio (1972) by Richard Sapper and Tolomeo (1987) by Michele De Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassina .
History and organization
In 1960 the company was founded by Ernesto Gismondi and Sergio Mazza. A first foreign branch was established in the USA in 1980. Today Artemide has branches in numerous countries. The German branch established in 1986 and managed by Ernesto Gismondi and Steffen Salinger as managing directors is based in Fröndenberg / Ruhr .
The Artemide Group acts as a holding company for the joint stock companies Artemide, Artemide Architectural Division (based in Saint-Florent-sur-Cher , France) and Nord Light (based in Sieci , Italy). It operates six production sites, three in Italy and one each in Germany, Hungary and France.

The designers who have worked for Artemide include Gae Aulenti , Mario Botta , Norman Foster , Enzo Mari , Neil Poulton , Karim Rashid , Luigi Serafini and Ettore Sottsass . Many Artemide lights have won design prizes like the Compasso d'Oro and the red dot design award , and museums like the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna in Rome have Artemide -Lights added to their collections.
