The city is located around 15 km east of the provincial and regional capital Florence at the confluence of the Arno and Sieve rivers and is part of the Comunità montana Montagna Fiorentina.

history

The name means bridge over the Sieve. This bridge connected Florence with the Sieve Valley and used to be of strategic importance. It was protected by the Castello di San Michele Arcangelo, which also forms the old town center. Three of the old gates have been preserved.
