history

The place was founded by the Etruscan family of Patna . The collection of bridges and towers was initially called Castrum Decumani in Roman times and served them as a fortress. The place name probably comes from the Comano River . Due to its location on the trade route to Forlì , the place aroused the interest of the Republic of Florence, which the local landlords expropriated in the 14th century and destroyed the castles of Belforte and del Pozzo . Florence obtained almost its entire grain supply via the trade routes through Dicomano , later the inland port became important for timber transport to Livorno and Pisa , where ships could be built. In 1919 the historic town center was almost completely destroyed by an earthquake, the world wars and a bombing on May 27, 1944 did the rest. In 1946 the architect Leonardo Savioli led the reconstruction, which led to a progressive orientation of the local architecture.
