Johann Birner

Johann Adam Birner (born December 1, 1858 in Munich ; † May 30, 1924 in Hamburg ) was a German SPD politician .

Life and politics

Johann Birner learned the professions of blacksmith and file cutter after elementary school and settled in Hamburg in 1881. Until 1894 he worked as a seaman , metalworker and shipyard worker. In the 1880s he was elected as a shop steward for the metalworkers and had been a member of the board of the branch of the metalworkers' association in Hamburg since 1891 . From June 1894 until his death he was also the paid first chairman of the general death fund in Hamburg.

For his party he took over the post of board member in the Eimsbüttel district. He was a member of the Hamburg parliament from 1916 to 1924. During this time he was also a member of the guardianship authority from 1919 to 1924.
