history

Oberamtssparkasse from 1856

The eight-storey former district office building opened in the KSK Heilbronn building complex

The Kreissparkasse Heilbronn goes back to the Oberamtssparkasse, which was founded on July 4, 1856 and had its cash office in the former post office and municipal office building on the Hafenmarkt in Heilbronner Sülmerstrasse from 1871 to 1887 . In 1882 a pfennig savings association "to record the smallest amounts" was founded. In 1887 the Oberamtssparkasse moved into its first own building at Klarastraße 15. In 1906, the administration of the Oberamtssparkasse was transferred to the district council. In 1912 the first branch offices were opened as Oberamtssparpflege. In 1917, the Sparkasse Heilbronn was authorized to hold and manage all kinds of securities as well as being able to pass checks. After the inflation in 1923, the cash register developed into the largest Oberamtssparkasse in Württemberg, which in 1927 relocated its business premises to the mezzanine floor of the new reinforced concrete district association building at Klarastrasse 23.

A new Sparkassengesetz (Savings Banks Act) in 1932 made the savings banks into public law institutions with their own legal personality.

Kreissparkasse from 1934

The new district order from 1934, which renamed the official bodies to "district associations", also brought the new name "Kreissparkasse Heilbronn, public savings bank of the city and the district of Heilbronn". The previously independent savings banks in Brackenheim and Neckarsulm and the branches in Lauffen , Neuenstadt , Bad Friedrichshall and Möckmühl were incorporated as the main branches of the Heilbronner Kreissparkasse in 1938. In the same year, the Sparkasse acquired the "Adlerkeller" property in the neighboring Klarastrasse 30 and relocated some departments there. In 1939, the Sparkasse also rents the first floor of the Klarastraße 20 building (former Reichsbank building).

During the air raid on Heilbronn on December 4, 1944, the Kreissparkasse's own house was completely destroyed, the district association house and the rented house of the Kreissparkasse burned down to the ground. The buildings of the main branches in Weinsberg , Neuenstadt and the town hall in Böckingen also fell victim to the bombing.

The till operation could be temporarily maintained. In June 1945 the Sparkasse took over a makeshift bookkeeping in Bismarckstrasse. 67 on. In May 1947, the Sparkasse resumed full banking operations in the restored district association building on Klarastrasse.

Schmettau sculpture in front of the main office

In 1958, the new building at the Wollhauszentrum , which is still used as the main office today, was moved into, and a central building was added in 1978. The former district office building on Urbanstrasse (formerly Klarastrasse), which was also called Langer Otto after the district administrator Otto Widmaier , who was in office until 1989, has merged into this building complex . It is an eight-story high-rise that was built from 1968 onwards according to a design by the architect Rolf Winter from Heilbronn and inaugurated on October 1, 1971. The institute's first two ATMs were installed in the main office in 1983. In 1990/91 the central building of the main office was extended and given the distinctive glass pyramid. After a previous closer artist competition, the larger than life painted bronze sculpture Woman, removing her mask by the artist Joachim Schmettau, was placed in front of the main office in 1996 .

In 2002 the merger with the district savings bank Eppingen took place , therefore the business area extends westward to Sulzfeld in the district of Karlsruhe .

The main office was enlarged in 2004 by another extension at the corner of Wollhausstrasse and Uhlandstrasse. In 2006, the year of the institute's 150th anniversary, the new customer hall was opened. From autumn 2013, cultural and informative events will take place regularly in the newly designed event area "Under the Pyramid".
