The District Savings Bank Eppingen was an independent savings bank in Eppingen from 1840 to 2001 . It was one of the first savings banks in what is now Baden-Württemberg .

Historical background

The orphan funds were the forerunners of the Baden savings banks. They were founded to create secure investment opportunities for ward money . Guardians and asset managers should also be given assistance in exercising the duties required by guardianship. At the beginning of the 19th century, cities and municipalities founded savings banks, often affiliated to the municipal pawnshops. Savings banks were initially set up in larger cities such as Karlsruhe (1813), Mannheim (1822), Freiburg (1826), Heidelberg (1831) and Pforzheim (1834).

founding

The Grand Duke of Baden's Ministry of the Interior issued a circular at the beginning of 1840 asking the municipalities to set up savings banks. Therefore, the head of the Eppingen District Office, Oberamtmann Anton Ortallo, took the initiative and invited to a meeting on March 15, 1840 to discuss the draft statutes of the newly founded Sparkasse. The following were invited: Wilhelm ( Privy Councilor ), legal trainee Eppinger, Dean Gaa (Protestant pastor), Mayor Hochstetter and the members of the local council. A committee was elected to prepare the founding meeting, which took place on Sunday, March 29, 1840. From this inaugural meeting, at which 83 people from the district were present, the members of the administrative council (Oberamtmann Ortallo, Assessor Ruth, Dean Rupp, Mayor Hochstetter, legal trainee Eppinger, old master Gebhardt) and the committee (councilor Raußmüller, Wilhelm, councilor Wittmann, Land surgeon Niebergell, Färber Preusch, local councilor Gebhard) elected.

On March 31 of the same year, the two committees appointed Assessor Ruth to the board, legal trainee Eppinger to the first secretary and official auditor Scholderer to the Sparkasse's computer. After the state approval had been granted, the shop opened on June 21, 1840 in the apartment of the calculator Scholderer. The name of this association savings bank was Sparcasse in the Eppingen district office .

Another story

From January 1, 1892, the city of Eppingen took over the community guarantee and thus the sponsorship of the Sparkasse. The Vereinssparkasse became a municipal savings bank. The club members were paid out, and the future distributed profits were used for charitable purposes. On January 1, 1935, the bank was renamed Sparkassen-Gesellschaft des Eppingen District , and the following municipalities acted as guarantors for the Sparkasse: Eppingen, Adelshofen , Berwangen , Gemmingen , Ittlingen , Richen , Rohrbach am Gießhübel , Stebbach and Schluchtern . In 1937/38 the municipalities Sulzfeld , Mühlbach , Elsenz , Landshausen and Tiefenbach joined .

In 1875 the first full-time computer Goswin Weigand was discontinued, and Heinrich Müller became his successor in 1911. The increase in business activity required its own business premises. In 1892 the Sparkasse got rooms in the Eppinger Rathaus, and in 1925 the bank moved into a villa at Ludwig-Zorn-Straße 10. In 1932 the first branch was opened in Sulzfeld.

Eppingen synagogue

The Jewish community of Eppingen - its members emigrated because of National Socialist discrimination or moved to larger cities - sold their synagogue at Kaiserstraße 6 to the district savings bank behind it on October 26, 1938 . Nevertheless, during the November pogroms on November 10, 1938, the Eppingen synagogue was desecrated and partly destroyed by fire. In 1940 it was completely demolished and in 1956 the new Sparkasse headquarters was built in the same place, which was located there until 1983.

The branch network was gradually expanded and included 11 branches in the following communities: Adelshofen, Berwangen, Elsenz, Gemmingen, Ittlingen, Kirchardt, Mühlbach, Rohrbach am Gießhübel, Stebbach and Sulzfeld. In 1983 the post-war building on Kaiserstraße was sold and the new building at Bahnhofstraße 5 was moved into. 2002 took place fusion of Bezirkssparkasse Eppingen with the Kreissparkasse Heilbronn .
