history

Adelshofen was first mentioned in a document as Otolshoven in 1287 , when reports were made of a donation from the Otolf's court to the Herrenalb monastery . The place was in the 14th century as a margravial Baden fiefdom owned by the Göler von Ravensburg . There was a Niederungsburg at the site , the origin of which is unknown and which is first mentioned in 1420. Ravan VI., The last Göler from Ravensburg in Adelshofen, sold half of the castle and town of Adelshofen in 1429 to Reinhard von Sickingen for 1900 guilders, and Reinhard von Sickingen sold the property in 1434 to the Lords of Neipperg , who also owned the other half of the castle and town of Margrave Jakob von Baden acquired. From the 16th century, Adelshofen belonged to the Adelshofen line of the Lords of Neipperg, until this line expired in 1708 and ownership fell back to the main Schwaigern line. The castle in Adelshofen was rebuilt, destroyed and rebuilt several times, most recently in 1716 as a moated castle in Adelshofen , but the complex no longer played a role as a manor house . As early as 1860 there was only a single tower that was completely demolished in the 1920s. Today only remember place names and the heraldic design of the town coat of arms of the former castle.

From 1806 Adelshofen was an independent municipality within the Grand Duchy of Baden . In 1924 the previously independent community of Dammhof , once owned by the Lords of Gemmingen , was incorporated. In the 1920s, a cycling club was founded and the first gymnasium was built. A real sports field was only built after the Second World War. In 1939 there were 662 inhabitants, at the end of 1945 there were 723. In 1949 the sports club Adelshofen was founded, in 1969 as SV Adelshofen e. V. entered in the register of associations. From 1955, the "Community Adelshofen" emerged from the evangelical community, which today operates the Adelshofen Life Center . As part of the Baden-Württemberg regional reform , Adelshofen was incorporated into the city of Eppingen on July 1, 1971. The place currently has about 1470 inhabitants.
