history

Kleingartach in Kieser's forest inventory book , around 1684

Gartach was first mentioned in 788 in a donation to Lorsch Abbey. The Lein rises near the village , which was once called Gartach and gave its name to both the village and the Gartachgau . Gartach only received the addition of Klein- in the 17th century to distinguish it from Großgartach . The Hirsau Monastery , the Wimpfen Abbey and the German Order had goods in the village . North above the town there was once the Leinburg , which was destroyed in 1442 and where local nobility also lived. In 1209 the market rights for a fair were granted, in 1332 the city rights . The place was once surrounded by walls and fortified by several towers.

In the 14th century Gartach initially belonged to Baden , but was pledged to Württemberg in 1380 , from where it was pledged to the Lords of Gemmingen . In Württemberg the place belonged to the Oberamt Brackenheim and from 1938 to the district of Heilbronn. In 1939 there were 808 inhabitants, at the end of 1945 there were 869.

The Kleingartach children's home was founded in 1960 and is now the Diakonische Jugendhilfe Region Heilbronn gGmbH (DJHN gGmbH), the largest youth welfare organization in the Heilbronn district.

On December 1, 1971, the city was incorporated into Eppingen. Today about 1850 inhabitants live in Kleingartach. The place is strongly influenced by viticulture to the present day and is surrounded by around 90 hectares of vineyards.

coat of arms

Description : The coat of arms of Kleingartach shows on a red shield a silver tower on a green hill, flanked by two green trees, which is crowned by a small Württemberg coat of arms (three stag poles ). The oldest known seal of the place from 1514 already shows the tower, which presumably represents the tower of the earlier Leinburg. In its current form, the coat of arms has been used since 1626.
