IDEO is an international design and innovation consultancy . The company uses methods of human centered design as well as the concept of design thinking , which it was fundamentally involved in establishing in design practice.

history

The company was created in 1991 through the merger of three design firms: David Kelley Design (founded by David Kelley , professor at Stanford University and co-founder and director of d.school - the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design ), ID Two (founded by Bill Moggridge ) and Matrix Product Design (founded by Mike Nuttall).

A well-known example of an innovation in service design is "Keep the Change", which IDEO developed for Bank of America .

Awards

"ideo-" is the combination form of the word idea as used in words such as ideogram or ideology . The company name (company) is therefore not an acronym or a foreign word. Bill Moggridge, one of the company's founders, found it while leafing through a dictionary.

The name IDEO is pronounced "eye-dee-oh" (in English).

Originally conceived as mixed writing, the company has been written in uppercase since Paul Rand designed the first company logo (1991) .
