history

Logo of the FH Wiesbaden

The Wiesbaden University of Applied Sciences was established on August 1, 1971 from the merger of former engineering schools in Idstein , Rüsselsheim and Geisenheim as well as the Wiesbaden School of Art and Crafts . On September 1, 2009, the Wiesbaden University of Applied Sciences was renamed the RheinMain University of Applied Sciences .

Up until the end of 2012 there were three study locations at the RheinMain University of Applied Sciences. The third place of study Geisenheim im Rheingau with the Geisenheim department was separated on January 1, 2013 and now forms the newly founded Geisenheim University together with the Geisenheim Research Institute .

In 2011, the Hessian State Library was integrated into the university. Together with the departmental libraries that existed until then, it now forms the RheinMain University and State Library .

The RheinMain University of Applied Sciences is a member of the Hesse Universities of Applied Sciences .

  • Campus Unter den Eichen : The Media: Conception & Production, Media Management, Media Informatics, Applied Informatics, Business Informatics, Communication Design and Interior Design department of the Design Informatics Media department as well as the main course of the Media Technology course (formerly television technology and electronic media) are located at the former headquarters of ZDF ) of the Department of Engineering.
  • Campus Rheinstrasse : Together with the subject-related libraries on the campus mentioned above, the former state library, which has been in existence since 1813 as the RheinMain university and state library, provides the university's central information services.

Rüsselsheim am Main

The four study areas mechanical engineering , information technology and electrical engineering , physics as well as environmental technology and services have been combined in the engineering department since September 2006 and offer several bachelor's and master's degrees. 3,498 students are currently studying here.

Departments

The university has the following 5 departments with over 70 courses:

  • Architecture and Civil Engineering (merged in 2005)
  • Design IT Media (since 2006)
  • Engineering (since September 1, 2006, merging of the four former departments, now the fields of information technology and electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental technology and services, and physics)
  • Social affairs (since 1974)
  • Wiesbaden Business School (since 1971)

Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering

The formerly independent departments of architecture and civil engineering were merged on September 1, 2005, which should also illustrate the long relationship - despite all the rivalry. Both emerged from the former building trade school and later building school in Idstein, which was founded in 1869 . In 1971 the construction school became part of the newly founded Wiesbaden University of Applied Sciences, but was initially still located in Idstein. It was not until 1993 that the company moved into a spacious new building with a solid construction and hydraulic engineering laboratory and additional laboratory rooms.

Today, the Civil Engineering study area offers civil engineering ( Bachelor of Engineering, six semesters), Real Estate Management (Bachelor of Engineering, six semesters), Mobility Management (Bachelor of Engineering, six semesters), Building Heritage - Preserving and Designing (Bachelor of Science, six semesters) , Construction technology | Construction Management ( Master of Engineering, four consecutive semesters) and Environmental Management and Urban Planning in metropolitan areas - UMSB (Master of Engineering, four consecutive semesters).

In the academic field of architecture students in are bachelor -of-arts degree program Architecture (six semesters) was added. The Master of Arts degree in Architecture - Building in Existing Buildings will begin teaching and studying in the 2011/2012 winter semester.

In both fields of study - architecture and civil engineering - the diploma courses expired in 2010.

28 professors, approx. 30 lecturers and just as many other employees look after the approximately 890 students in the department.
