Ruth Underberg

Ruth Underberg (* 1924 in Cologne ; † 2002 ) was a German artist.

Life

Underberg came from the family of the bitter manufacturer Underberg . She was the daughter of Else Underberg (nee Schmitz-Winnenthal) and Hubert Gottfried Underberg (the grandson of the company founder Underberg-Albrecht).

In 1939 she attended the Lette-Verein technical school in Berlin to train as a fashion illustrator. In 1942 she became a member of the Hermann Göring Master School for Painting in Kronenburg , Eifel. There she was a student with Werner Peiner . She later continued her art studies at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin . From 1944 the family was evacuated in Austria (Wolfgangsee). There Ruth Underberg worked with the painter Paul Mathias Padua in particular on landscapes, portraits and still lifes. During this time she completed a number of oil portraits, including for the ambassador to Romania, Prince Karl Fürstenberg .

After the war, Ruth Underberg first lived in Bad Godesberg as a freelance artist. She was a member of the Rheinisch-Westfälischer Künstlerverein and had numerous successful exhibitions, including a. in Aachen, Cologne and Bad Godesberg.

From 1954 Ruth Underberg attended the Werkkunstschule Wiesbaden .

From 1956 Ruth Underberg lived in Frankfurt, where she received numerous commissions for image designs, portraits etc. as an artist. She was never married and had no children. She lived with her parents until her mother's death (1974). She then lived until 1984 on the Winnenthal manor near Xanten, her mother's parents' house, where she had her own gallery.
