Media production

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The object of media production is the generation of mass media , i.e. technical systems for conveying information and entertainment . This requires the development of media content as well as the technical communication system itself. In addition, media production always integrates organizational approaches to design the development process. This creates a relationship system made up of the components content, technology and organization. All three components interact and determine their characteristics.

Production process

Media production includes the development of classic media such as print media , radio , television and music production , but also new media forms such as the Internet or mobile communication . This form of classification goes hand in hand with the emergence of media forms and the respective current technical conditions.

Independent of the media industry, a linear development process of the media can be described. It consists of the four main phases of pre- production, production, post-production and distribution . The linearity of the process can only be broken in a few cases, as the phases are always based on the results of the last phase. Simultaneous execution of process phases can only be implemented to a limited extent. For example, visual effects for action scenes (post-production) could be prepared during filming (production), but compositing can only take place after production is complete.

education

In order to do justice to the increasing digitization in the media production process, the multi-year training course to become a media designer in the fields of digital and print as well as image and sound was created. Bachelor courses in media technology or media production have been developed at several universities of applied sciences. There are also training courses at film and television academies such as the Bavarian Television Academy . The Munich Academy of Journalists offers six months of advanced training and a nine-month extra-occupational course on digital media production .
