The Journalist Academy Dr. Hooffacker GmbH & Co. KG in Munich is a publisher-independent, private, German journalism school . She specializes in online journalism and cross media ; further topics are press work and video journalism .
history
Under the name of Journalist Academy Dr. Hooffacker & Partner , the journalism school was founded in 1999 by Gabriele Hooffacker and Peter Lokk in Munich. In 2000 the first course was started under the title "Online Journalism". The journalists' academy was the first German journalism school to specialize in this field. The legal form of the journalism school has been the Stiftung GmbH & Co. KG since 2008 . From 2018, courses will be held in Leipzig in cooperation with the Leipzig School of Media .
education
The training is not a scientific one, but one in practical journalism. It lasts six months of full-time teaching including project work. A maximum of 15 students per class learn both the classic and cross-media journalistic craft.
The training is free as long as the applicants meet the individual requirements for admission and for the education voucher . Project work for social and cultural institutions such as the Bavarian Refugee Council , the Ev. Study Center Josefstal or the Association for Women's Interests .
Applicant selection
Basic knowledge of journalism is required. They have to be proven by publications, internship certificates or other certificates. The selection is made through an application to the journalists' academy and an interview.

Cooperations and Membership
Together with the dju , part-time courses and a training certificate are offered.
A pilot project for inclusive teaching was started in 2007 together with the Frankfurt Foundation for the Blind and Visually Impaired . One or two blind or visually impaired participants are trained as part of the regular lessons in a class of the online journalism course.
The journalist academy is a member of MedienCampus Bayern .
Journalism Academy Foundation
The non-profit journalist academy foundation is a limited partner of the journalist academy Dr. Hooffacker. It promotes innovative journalism, among other things it awards the Alternative Media Prize every year in cooperation with the non-profit association Nürnberger Medienakademie .
In 1999, the Munich Media Talks were launched together with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation . Journalists, politicians and scientists discuss topics such as “Right-wing extremism in the media”, “The threatened authority - public broadcasting in danger?” Or “Hitler sells. Contemporary history on television ”. Guests so far have included Ulrich Chaussy , Volker Herres , Volker Lilienthal , Herlinde Koelbl , Klaus Meier , Walther von La Roche , Horst Pöttker and Hans-Jochen Vogel .
The Journalist Academy Foundation organizes the German Human Rights Film Prize together with Amnesty International and others . She is a member of the expert group on quality journalism and foundations at the Federal Association of German Foundations .
