Alternative media award

The Alternative Media Prize draws since 2000 cross-media journalists classical and non-commercial media as well as by community media from. It is awarded in the categories of power, history, networking, life, future and media criticism.

The award-winning contributions deal with topics that are not or only insufficiently featured in the established media, or develop original formats in terms of journalistic presentation . Civic engagement or the promotion of citizen journalism is also a criterion.

The prize is awarded by the Nürnberger Medienakademie e. V. as well as the also non-profit Foundation Journalist Academy. The selection takes place in two steps: A preliminary jury checks the submitted contributions after the deadline and selects those that are nominated. The jury then selects the winners from the nominated entries. The jury includes Peter Lokk , Peter Welchering , Klaus Meier , Lutz Frühbrodt and Gabriele Hooffacker .

The founders of the award are the Nuremberg alternative radio Radio Z and the Nürnberger Medienakademie e. V. Both are recognized non-profit associations. In 2008, the Journalist Academy Foundation was added as a co-organizer, Radio Z dropped out as a co-organizer, but stayed on as a supporter. Further sponsors and supporters are the “Second Enlightenment”, dju /ver.di, Nürnberger Nachrichten , the cultural department of the city of Nuremberg , the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and others

history

Until 2016, the prize was awarded in the print, audio, video and online categories. The Alternative Media Prize was one of the first journalist prizes to be advertised for the Internet medium. In 2012 the special award for media criticism was awarded for the first time . In this category, too, the alternative media prize was first prize in the German-speaking region.

In 2017, the project "No Room for Law" did not accept the prize money, but made it available for a prevention project, as Norbert Fleischer was among the other award winners, the editor of the "relevant for his esoteric to conspiracy-ideological films". Internet portal NuoViso.TV is.

The alternative media prize was awarded for the first time in 2017 in the categories of power, history, networking, life and future. In the category of media criticism there was the special award of the "Second Enlightenment" until 2018. In 2020, the alternative media prize was awarded online because of the corona pandemic .
