Ulrike Winkelmann (* 1971 in Wiesbaden ) is a German journalist . Together with Barbara Junge , she is editor-in-chief of the taz .

Life

Ulrike Winkelmann grew up in Paderborn . After studying German studies , constitutional law and political science in Hamburg and London, as well as an internship at the Hamburg edition of the tageszeitung (taz), she had worked in several positions in Berlin since the end of 1999 : She was head of the service and editor for social policy and since 2004 parliamentary correspondent for five years. In mid-June 2010 she went to the weekly newspaper der Freitag to head the politics department. After a year she returned to taz, where she took over the management of the domestic department in July 2011.

From 2014 she was a feature editor at Deutschlandfunk in Cologne. She was the author of numerous episodes of the daily magazine “ Background ”. In 2017 she was the editor in charge of the radio feature “The hard drive on wheels: What data the car collects - and reveals” by Jan Rähm , which was shortlisted for the Ernst Schneider Prize . Winkelmann takes part in discussions on current political issues on television, such as the ARD press club and corresponding programs on Phoenix .

Since August 1, 2020, she has been editor-in-chief of taz together with Barbara Junge.

Awards

In 2011 Ulrike Winkelmann received the second prize in the Alternative Media Prize in the “Print” category for her article “Integriert dich!”, Which was published on Friday in September 2010.
