Jan Rähm

Jan Rähm is a German science and technology journalist based in Berlin. He has been working as a freelancer since 2006. Its contributions are broadcast on German and Austrian public radio , but are also published in various print media.

In 2014 and 2015 he was a lecturer and trainer for basic training for journalists, in audio editing, podcast, press and public relations at the Bundeswehr Information Center . In 2015 he gave the lecture “In the Net of Things - How the physical world becomes smart” at the DGI ( German Society for Information and Knowledge ). In 2016 he held the lecture “Media Law in Practice” at the University of Potsdam and in 2018 a seminar in the field of science and technology journalism at the TU Dresden .

  • 2012: ACHEMA media award for “Is this gold or can it go? - About the sense, nonsense and feasibility of urban mining ”, broadcast on Deutschlandfunk 2011.
  • 2016: Journalist Prize for Computer Science in the main television category for the program “Cyberwar - 7 things that you should know” from the Quarks series for which Rähm was one of the authors.
  • 2016: Shortlist Ernst Schneider Prize in the category “Radio - Big Business Broadcast” for the feature “Internet of Things - Dangers and Chances of the Digitized World”, broadcast on Deutschlandfunk 2015
  • 2017: Shortlist Ernst Schneider Prize in the category “Radio - Big business broadcast” for the feature “The hard drive on wheels: What data the car collects - and reveals”, broadcast on Deutschlandfunk 2016
